Chapter 181

As Brian approached the door, he happened to overhear Davis bantering with the Wright family inside.

Davis saw Brian and said to Samuel and Lydia, “Here comes Brian. He'll take good care of Gracia. You folks can

stop worrying.”

Samuel seemed to understand Davis‘ hint. With a complicated look, he took Lydia’s hand and left first.

Brian listened to Davis’ instructions about looking after Gracia’s feelings. He stayed silent, watching as the group

filed out.

“Brian...” The hospital room felt suddenly quiet, leaving just him and Gracia. Tears welled up in Gracia’s eyes

again.

“The doctor says it's no big deal. Stay a few days in the hospital, and you'll be as right as rain,” Brian said and

put the medical report on the bedside table, his face betraying nothing.

Even if Brian wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed, he knew that director sneaking into Natalie's room spelled

trouble.

And Gracia lying in Natalie’s bed? Now, that was a whole different kind of interesting.

Gracia might have played the part of the innocent well, but she knew how to keep her nose out of his personal

life. She never brought up anything about Madelyn in his presence. That proved she wasn’t as naive as she

seemed.

He hadn't confronted her because she had never posed a real threat to him. Perhaps Gracia had tried to set

Natalie up the night before, but instead of the hunter, she becthe hunted.

Brian turned and sat on the couch opposite the bed, silently fixing Gracia with his gaze.

“Brian, why are you staring atlike that?” Gracia felt a shiver run down her spine under his gaze. She stopped

crying and asked him cautiously.

“What were you doing in Natalie's room last night?” Brian paused briefly before asking softly, “Don’t tellit

was sisterly love.”

“Brian...” Gracia fumbled for words, “I was just... curious about how she won that award and what she’s been up

to abroad all these years. | never expected that she had invited that director over. I...”

“Really?” Brian cut her off, “What did you find out? I’m curious, too. Why would Natalie appear on that award

stage?”

“We barely exchanged a few words. | didn’t learn anything,” Gracia said, pouting her lips in a show of injustice.

“Suddenly, she knockedout, and when | woke up, that director was tearing my clothes!”

knew a be when he heard one. He had seen the unused bag of powder in her purse. No wet she had intended for

Natalie to drink it.

Or even more troubling perhaps it was Davis who had instructed Gracia to use it.

didn’t feel like pressing for more answers. She wouldn't tell the truth. She would just keep en couung trouble,

relying on Davis favoritism toward her.

“poet srest. You didn’t sleep at all last night,” he said softly.

Don’t you believe me?” Gracia asked, her eyes searching Brian's for affirmation.

Brian paused a little and then replied indifferently, “I do.”

In the end. Gracia had failed. She was the victim, who was pathetic in his eyes.

Thinking he believed her, Gracia sighed in reliet and lay down at ease.

Brian listened to her breathing even out and pulled out his smartphone, opening a chat with

tared at Natalie's profile picture for a long while. In the end, he tossed the phone aside.

Even if he asked. Natalie wouldn't give him a straight answer. He wanted her to open up to him.
