KYLE'S POV.

Eavesdropping on people's conversation is a shitty thing to do. I don't encourage it. I don't do it, but I couldn't help myself this taround. I was too eager to know what my father had cto discuss with Alpha Reagan. It's true he's going to telleventually, but I was too curious to wait so I sent away the guards always stationed at his office door and thanks to our heightened sense of hearing, I was able to follow the conversation through the closed door.

I am not impressed with what I heard.

My father and Alina are at it again.

My father is a very proud man. He hardly bows to anyone's will and the last thing he'd do is lick anyone's shoes because he's in need of what the person has to offer him. But his actions lately baffle me. He's acting like a desperate man and it's exhausting to watch.

It's even more exhausting to watch him give Alpha Reagan such a hard tand I wish I could do something to stop all madness.

"Father!" I call for the umpteenth tas I catch up with him outside the building premises. Just like the other times, he ignores my call and keeps striding towards his car, but I step in front of him, blocking his path and that finally gets him to stop.

"What do you want?" He asks in irritation. My shoulders sag. I let out a heavy sigh.

"Father, we need to talk!" "If it's not about you convincing that Alpha of yours to man up to his responsibilities, then I don't think that will happen." He takes a step to the right, but I do the sand block him yet again. His guards rush forward, but one dangerous side-eye frommakes them pause in their tracks and exchange frightened looks.

One step further and I'll send each one of them flying towards every corner of this premises. They know that because I've done it before. My silent warning seems to have sinked into their heads because they pace backwards and I look back at my father who's still frowning at me.

"Father, you need to stop this madness!" "Madness!" He roars in disbelief. The wrinkles on his forehead becmore prominent as his face darkens with rage. His nostrils flare and his eyes have a wild look in them, but none of that frightens me. Not anymore. "Madness you say?" He repeats and I nod my head, keeping a straight face.

"Yes, it's madness." "That man!" He points to the main entrance door. "Impregnate your sister and he's refusing to take responsibility for it, yet you..." "No, he's not!" I cut him off in a bored tune. "He has promised to take care of Alina and the baby." "And you think that's enough? What about her honor? She deserves to have a place in his life, not to be his baby mama!" "Father. You can't force the man to marry someone he doesn't love. He has a fated mate!" "Fated mate be damned!" He roars so loudly, I'm sure Alpha Reagan heard his voice from his office. "Alina is more fit and..." "I don't want to hear it." I wave a dismissive hand at his face, stopping him from preaching his usual sermon about Alina's competence and the strength and influence of our family in the pack. "It's embarrassing to see you two desperately seeking the Alpha's attention. Father please, you have to stop!" That plea earnsa heavy smack on my right check. The spot stings as though a thousand little ants are biting various spots on my cheek and I'm sure it is red by now. I suck in a deep breath, and face him again.

"I wonder all the tif you're truly my son!" He sneers. I chuckle lightly and take a dainty step forward, my eyes never leaving his face.

"Well, that's too bad, because right now you're staring at a face whose only difference from yours is the absence of a wrinkled forehead and sagging cheeks that cas a result of old age. I am your son. I am your blood and there's nothing you can do about that." "Get out of my way!" "Your plans will fail. Alpha Reagan is not like the others. He will never bow to your will." "Watchmake that happen." His right hand grabs my shoulder and I feel myself being pushed off my feet. When he lets go, I stagger sideways to regain my balance while the old man walks along the path I was blocking. I watch him get into his car with a smirk on my face.

He's never going to change.

************************************************ I head back to Alpha Reagan's office when my father's car leaves the premises. I don't know what I'm going to say to him, but I need to talk to him.

"You're here." He says once I step into his office. I close the door behindand go over to meet him at his desk. "I am." "I'm sure you want to know what I discussed with my father." He stops typing on his computer and looks at me. I'm surprised to see a relaxed look on his face. He doesn't look irritated or agitated. He's calm and composed, which I'm happy about, but that doesn't stopfrom being curious as to why the conversation with my father didn't rile him up as I thought it would.

"I already know. I was too curious so I eavesdropped. I'm sorry about that." "It's okay. Sometimes we bend our morals in order to achieve a vital goal." I take several steps forward. "Alpha Reagan I'm sorry for all the stress my family is putting you through. I promise, I keep trying to talk my father and Alina out of it but they won't listen. They are adamant about letting this issue go. I know it's stressing you up a great and I'm sorry that I can't control my family." A pause. A pace.

Awful silence is the current state of the office. I start to wonder if I've said something wrong.

Alpha Reagan drops his elbows on the desk and supports his chin above his interwoven fingers don't like that blank look on his face. It's impossible forto tell if he's annoyed by my apology or not. "And why exactly are you apologising to me?" "Because my family is giving you a hard time."

"And you are helpinggo through that hard time." His hands drop from chin and he pushes his seat behind, rising to his feet. My gaze follows his full length and meets his face again. "For that, I am grateful. So there's no need for you to be sorry." The back of my neck heats. My left hand unconsciously goes to the back of my head and I nervously scratch it.

"I uh... you know... I just wish I could talk ssense to them."

"Your father and sister are too ambitious and determined to be swayed by words. Don't sweat it. Just keep helpingthe way you do and we'll get through this." His cool tone brings a smile to my face. I give him a small nod. "We sure will." "I don't know about you, but I'm exhausted and I'm taking the rest of the day off. You can do the sif you want." My mind goes straight to Tessa. I'll have the rest of the day to spend with her. An even wider smile appears on my face.

"Thank you Alpha." I thank him with a slight bow before almost running out of the room.
