1323  It Was A Person

"Was it really that interesting?" asked Raelle to Justin who nodded his head in response. "What was so interesting?" she muttered to herself. Well, as long as Justin liked it. Anyway, Xiang Wai shared this experience with others only because she wanted Justin to see how awesome she was. So, whether she found it interesting or not had little to do with Xiang Wai, right?

"Do we have more stories?" asked Justin. "Daddy, what about you?"

"Your dad is boring," said Xiang Wai. "He has nothing fun to share."

"It's not fun as Wai said," started Xiang Weimin. "But it's mysterious. Would you like to hear it?"

"Yes!" said Hyson and Justin simultaneously.

Xiang Weimin looked at Hyson, "Why are you joining in the fun?"

"Why can't I?" retorted Hyson. "Just tell me already. I'm curious about what could be considered mysterious in your life."

Xiang Weimin shook his head at Hyson and told them, "It started when I was six, I believe. Before the divorce of our parents. Every Friday, I'd find a bunch of purple magnolias tied in my school desk." The most update n0vels are published on NoᴠelFɪre.net

"Who left it? Which girl was it?" asked Hyson curiously.

"I don't know who left it," answered Xiang Weimin. "I didn't take it seriously at the beginning. I just thought some girl left it for me. Although it might not seem like it, I was still a very popular kid in school. A lot of girls wanted to share their candies with me or their lunch boxes. So, my first thought was that one of those girls left it. I never took it seriously."

"What next?"

"Next, things changed in life. Our parents divorced, we moved. I changed the city, I changed the school. But when I was feeling like everything was changing, I found that something was still the same. I still had a bunch of purple magnolias in my desk waiting for me every Friday."

"There was no letter attached to those flowers?" asked Shui Xian. "Usually, there'd be a love confession letter there."

"Talking from experience, Xian Ge?" asked Hyson.

Shui Xian took a pause but still nodded, "Yes, I am talking from experience. Because even when people left gifts or cookies or anything on my desk for me, there'd be a letter. Even if it was just an anonymous letter, there'd be a letter for sure."

"Mine didn't have any," answered Xiang Weimin. "There was never a name. Never a letter. Nothing. Just flowers. That's when I started getting interested in this. Considering so much changed in my life in a short period of time, I was curious to know why this didn't change. Did someone follow me all the way from my old school to the new one? But when I checked I was the only transfer student in the school. As much as it was comforting to have some constant in life during that time, I still desperately wanted to know who was behind it."

"So, what did you do?" asked Hyson.

"Isn't it obvious?" asked Shui Xian. "He must have gone to school earlier and earlier waiting to catch the person who left him flowers."

Xiang Weimin gave Shui Xian a look and nodded, "Yes, that's what I did. Sadly, it was of no use because I still couldn't find the person behind it all." He sighed to himself and added, "So, I spoke with my Dad at that time. You see, I didn't have all that many conversations with Dad. One, I had nothing to say. Two, he was busy all the time after his divorce. Maybe he was trying to numb himself with work. Whatever it was, I found time to sit down with him and tell him about this weird thing happening with me. I was already nine by then, by the way. It had been going on for three years already. I needed some answers."

"What did Dad say?" asked Xiang Wai apparently not knowing anything about this either.

"He fell into deep thought for a long time before saying, 'Is it necessary for you to find the person behind it?' I said, 'Yes. I am curious.' He gave me a smile and said, 'Some answers are not necessary in life, son. If you run after them, you might forget to appreciate what you have. Ask yourself, are you more looking forward to those flowers or the answer behind them?' After that, I couldn't say anything."

"You stopped looking," said Shui Xian with certainty.

Xiang Weimin smiled, "I did. I stopped looking and I stopped asking questions. If anything, I knew that whenever I found those flowers on my desk, I was genuinely happy."

"That's where your love for plants came from," said Raelle with certainty.

"Yeah. That's where it came from originally."

"For how long did it go on?" asked Hyson because he was more curious about this.

"Until I went to the military academy," answered Xiang Weimin. "And since I graduated early, it means it went on for a decade apparently."

"For ten years, you got the same flowers on your desk with no name on them."

"Yup!"

"Who do you think was behind it?" "I told you, I stopped wondering that long ago. I didn't care at all. I was just happy to have someone who silently showed me support in this way. It didn't matter to me what the purpose was behind it all."

Hyson nodded his head, "This really is a mysterious experience. But Ge, what would you do if one day that person really came in front of you?"

"You won't say it was a ghost?" asked Xiang Weimin.

"It might seem like a supernatural experience but I know better than that. It was definitely a person. If I found who that person is, I'd love to give that person an applaud for being so persistent."

"I also think it was a human. If it was some supernatural, you'd have gotten those flowers in the military academy too. If you didn't, it means that person's reach wasn't up there," said Raelle.
