Chapter 306 "This is she. Who's on the line?" I asked as I furtively glanced in Chris' direction.

He didn't appear to have seen me. I watched him walk toward a nearby empty chair and sat down.

"I'm Agent A8338 from Forever and Always Insurance Co. I'm calling to inform you that the couple's insurance you and Mr. Chris Gildon bought four years ago has matured. We'll need to verify sinformation with you before we can proceed." My skin prickled at this, and I instinctively looked at Brandon. He had been holdingclose since we sat down, but he left to giveprivacy after I picked up the call. He was always so considerate with me, givingthe sense of security and space I needed.

The insurance agent on the other line asked, "Ms. Crown, could you enlighten us on your current situation with Mr. Gildon? Are you married, or are you still in the dating stage?" I couldn't help glancing at Chris yet again, only to see him engaged on the phone and frowning.

"Ms. Crown, are you still there?" the agent prompted when I did not reply.

I gulped. "Yes, I'm still here. We..." I was about to say we broke up when I caught Christ, who had not so much as looked in my direction since he appeared in my line of vision, glancing at me.

I couldn't run or hide even if I wanted to.

Just like that, Chris and I met each other's gaze across the distance of the boarding hall. Whatever words I had been about to say curdled on my tongue. "Ms. Crown?" the agent prompted again.

I didn't know what cover me, but I demanded hotly, "Why don't you ask Mr. Gildon?" "We've reached out to him. Another one of our agents is verifying the information with him right now." Upon hearing this response, I knew Chris was speaking to another agent from Forever and Always Insurance Co.

I should have known the world would find sway to deliver a cruel joke in the guise of a coincidence.

I swallowed, my throat as dry as the desert as I croaked, "Mr. Gildon and I have broken up." "Are you certain?" The agent's question madewant to punch him.

I tore my gaze away from Chris' silhouette across the hall and glanced at Brandon. Looked at the ring on my finger and muttered, "I'm married." The agent was silent for a moment. "Very well, Ms. Crown. We'll await Mr. Gildon's response on the matter. If everything checks out, then your joint insurance will be terminated according to the terms and conditions of the policy." "Okay, great," I said, anxious to hang up.

However, the agent seemed intent on drawing out my agony. "We wish you a happy and fulfilling marriage, Ms. Crown. May we interest you and your husband in a married couple's insurance policy? The investment starts from a one- year minimum, and the longer you stayed married, the greater the yield-" "No, thanks!" I said, cutting her off before she rambled on.

"But Ms. Crown, the insurance-" the agent argued. It seemed like I was saddled with a pesky one.

I did not give her the chance to continue and interrupted her sharply, "Can your insurance policy guarantee ve atong-lasting marriage? One that is true to your name, forever and always?" The answer was an outright no, as demonstrated by Chris and I. While the agent was stumped, I hung up. When I looked up again, I noticed Chris was no longer engaged on the phone. However, he was still staring atlike a deer caught in headlights.

I looked away from him and walked up to Brandon. He reached for my hand with natural ease, his fingers intertwined with mine.

"It was from an insurance agent askingif I'd be interested in one of

their couples' policies. The longer you're married or stay in love, the more the benefits. By the tthe policy matures, you stand to redeem a huge premium," I explained, wondering if Brandon would show any He pointed out. "It's just a sales gimmick." "But plenty of lovers and married couples have purchased these sorts of insurance. They probably did it as a testimony of their relationship," I theorized.

Brandon snaked an arm around my waist and pinnedwith an assessing look. A few seconds later, he ordered, "Close your eyes."

"Why?" I swallowed, wondering if he would kiss me. Chris was nearby. While he and I have ended things, and didn't mind displaying my affection for Brandon before him, I still felt uneasy about it. "Be good and do as
