Chapter 291 I was terrified that the familial love Zack and Bree had givenwould turn out to be a joke. I wasn't sure if I could believe Arthur. His was only one side of the story.

I shouldn't overthink or be so suspicious, but this concerned my parent's deaths. I just didn't know what else to ask or how I should probe, so I stayed silent.

"Missy, you might not know this, but Zack has a secret fund," Arthur said. I looked up at him in surprise, and he chuckled. "Don't worry. Zack couldn't be more different from me." I nearly laughed, too. At least Arthur was astute. The intehad painted him as a man who had more wives and lovers than most, but even as he indulged in such pleasures, he only ever had a son-Eden. I pointed out, "Zack and Bree are very happily married." Arthur smiled, and I didn't quite catch the meaning behind it. He said, "Zack's secret fund is impressive by normal standards. It contains the profit and interests from the deal your father made." He then looked atand elaborated, "The secret fund was set up in your father's name. In other words, that money belonged to him." I was stunned. I had never heard about this despite the years I was in Gildon Corporation. Zack and Bree hadn't told me, either.

"Zack said your father sacrificed himself for the money, and he would feel bad about using it. As such, all the profit derived from the project had gone into the secret fund. Zack said to think of it as a dowry your parents left you." Tears rolled down my cheeks when I heard this. At the stime, a sharp pain radiated through my chest. I never expected Zack and Bree to have done so much for me. I felt bad for even suspecting them of foul play. "Missy," Arthur said, his voice a solid tether that pulledout of my thoughts. "Zack did not betray your father." Not only that, he had been wallowing in guilt over that contract and showedmore kindness and love than he did his son.

"It's unfortunate." Arthur sighed.

I didn't know what he meant by that, but I was too strung up to listen further.

"Thank you, Mr. Griffins." I bowed my head in thanks before leaving.

After I left, I drove quite a distance before I decided to stop somewhere and spaced out behind the wheel. While I was touched by Zack's gestures, I refused to base my conclusion on Arthur's side of the story.

I needed more confirmation.

As such, I drove to the police station to retrieve the case file on my parents' accident.

However, I was refused. "I'm sorry, miss, but this is an old case. If you'd like to retrieve the case file, you'd have to make an appointment and cup with documentary proof that you are a direct kin of the car crash victims." Documentary proof? I wasn't aware that they needed a family tree. I was fuming and about to say something when a familiar voice sounded. "Get her details down and retrieve the case file for her." "Yes, Mr. Lowenstein," the administrator at the desk stood up and replied respectfully.

I turned to look at the man who had spoken in my favor, only to see a familiar figure standing next to him. It was Chris!

I could only conclude that the captain of the police station, whose lastm nwas Lowenstein, had only agreed to helpbecause Chris told him to.

"May I have your ID, please?" the administrator asked, her voice m spappingback to reality. I fished out my ID.

After the administrator registeredas a visitor, she turned on the m computer and began to retrieve the case file for me. X I was anxiously waiting when a figure suddenly appeared next to me. I cast the person a sidelong glance.
