Chapter 1389 I Failed to Protect Her

Upon seeing the situation, Marcellus didn't care whether she was willing or not. He reached over with his long arm

and pulled her into his arms, noticing her pale face. His expression turned serious, "Are you feeling unwell? We

should go to the hospital."

"No," she shook her head. The familiar scent filled her senses, and tears started to well up in her eyes, yet she held

them back, "I want to go back..."

Her words trailed off. She had wanted to say 'home', but as the words came to her lips, she realized that she had no

home here. With Amir ill and in hospital, she had no one to seek comfort from.

The feelings of loss and loneliness that she had managed to keep at bay for the past two years flooded back,

wrapping around her tightly once more.

Marcellus saw her turmoil and regretted what he had let happen. If only he hadn't been upset, if only he had left

when she came to look for him, none of the subsequent events would have taken place.

Biting his teeth hard, he bent down and scooped her up, "I know you don't want this, but just from here to the car.

After I set you down, I won't touch you again."

Without another word, he started walking briskly toward the restroom exit.

Beryl buried her face in his chest, not wanting to meet the gaze of any of the onlookers.

Half a minute later, Marcellus put her in his car. The soft seat offered her some comfort. Meanwhile, Kevin was

stepping out of his car and walking toward them.

Noticing that Beryl was carried out, he realized that something must have happened, "What happened?"

Marcellus didn't answer until after he had closed the car door, his voice low, "Someone laid hands on her. It was

close..."

He couldn't finish the sentence, but Kevin understood.

"How did it come to this?"

No one responded. Kevin noticed the residual anger in Marcellus, but what was more apparent was a deep regret

that couldn't be put into words.

Kevin knew the incident had to do with Marcellus. He wanted to blame him, but seeing his state, he couldn't bring

himself to. He ended up just sighing in resignation, "Marcellus, she was so afraid of being misunderstood that she

stood guard in the hospital room all day and came over whenever she had time at night. Even if you're angry or

have some grudges, can't you just let her finish talking before making a scene?"

No matter what, Kevin could tell that Beryl was a good girl, with a good heart and pure intentions. Marcellus, a man

who has navigated the complex world, could use a bit of that sunlight.

"If I had known it would end up like this, I would never have treated her that way," Marcellus closed his eyes, still

seeing the scene when he pushed the partition open.

He didn't even want to think about what might have happened if he had been a moment later.

"If she really was bullied tonight, I will never forgive myself."

Kevin shook his head, "If you like her, treat her well. Control your temper and character. Alright, I've said too much.

It's hard for you too. Go home and comfort her. She must be traumatized, especially for a girl who values herself so

much."

Marcellus nodded, "Thank you, Kevin."

"No need to thank me. Just treat her right."

Watching Kevin turn and leave, Marcellus opened the car door and sat in the back seat. The girl who was sitting

upright immediately moved away from him as if she wanted to put as much distance between them as possible.

Marcellus knew it was his own fault, so he had no room to complain. He signaled to his driver to start the car.
