Zoey's seven years weighed heavily on Fitch. How many sets of seven years does a woman get in a lifetime? Even if Fitch had the

slightest bit of concern for Zoey, how could he dismiss those years as nothing?

That thought was like a thorn in his heart.

Now, all Wendy had to do was sever the ties between them once and for all.

"Let it go, Fitch. I'm being discharged from the hospital today anyway."

However, the call from the Haskins family cat that very moment. The spectacle Belinda had caused at the last cocktail party

had caught Mr. Haskins' eye, and the previous night, he had summoned Fitch to his study to ask if there was any truth to the rumor

that he and Zoey had been an item.

Without a second thought, Fitch denied it. He and Zoey had never been in a relationship. The most he could admit was having

humiliated her over a few hundred thousand dollars - which was nothing, not even enough to call her a lover.

Fitch was the heir apparent to the Haskins family, the one with the most say in the family, but he still held immense respect for his

grandfather.

"Fitch," Mr. Haskins had said, "as long as you know what you're doing. Since you've decided to be with that Wendy girl, | don't care

what other dalliances you have, just cut them off. And as for Zoey's family."

He'd frowned, his disdain for Belinda still fresh.

A family like the Haskins would never mingle with such people.

"l understand, Grandpa."

Now Mr. Haskins was calling again, likely to inquire about Wendy's injury. After all, it had happened at a Haskins event, and they

felt somewhat responsible.

Wendy's eyes sparkled as she got the chance to ingratiate herself.

"Grandpa, I'm fine and about to leave the hospital. Fitch is pickingup. Yes, | know, don't worry, | won't pursue the matter any

further; Fitch will handle it. Alright, goodbye."

After hanging up, she started to tug at Fitch's hand.

"Let's go, we're heading back. Grandpa is worried about me, and the Bennitts have been calling non-stop since I've been stuck

here in the hospital."

Fitch nodded, instinctively pulling his hand away. Intimacy wasn't his forte.

Wendy's smile faltered but quickly recovered as she stayed close to him on their way out.

However, when the elevator stopped at a floor, in walked Cornelia.

Cornelia was well aware of the history between Zoey and Fitch, and that Zoey couldn't let go. Seeing Fitch with another woman

evidently made her curious.

She'd been on her way to bring Zoey sfood from the hospital cafeteria.

Wendy vaguely recognized Cornelia as someone famous, but paid her no mind, focusing instead on Fitch.

"Grandpa wantsto cover for dinner tonight, Fitch. Will you take me?"

"Sure."

Cornelia had heard rumors about Fitch's impending union with the Bennitt family. This must be Wendy.

She looked away, not wanting to get involved.

As the elevator doors opened on the ground floor, Cornelia pulled up her mask and walked out.

But then she turned back, smiling slyly at Fitch.

"Oh, by the way, when you called Zoey yesterday, | was the one who answered. Sorry about that. Zoey was so tired she fell asleep.

Was it something important? | can ask her later for you."

After dropping this bomb, she noticed Wendy's face contorting with displeasure.

Fitch paused, understanding Cornelia's protective stance toward Zoey.

How strange it was that everyone acted as if he had wronged Zoey when there was really nothing between them.

He had not gone after Zoey for a reckoning after regaining his memory, largely out of respect for lan and Maja.

Cornelia left for the cafeteria, leaving Wendy struggling to maintain a smile.

"Fitch, what did you want with Zoey?" she asked, her curiosity piqued.

Fitch did call Zoey the previous night, having hired a lawyer, but even the lawyer couldn't reach her.

"I called her to demand an apology to you."

His tone was indifferent. "Wasn't it her doing?"

The stars lit up in Wendy's eyes, and her cheeks flushed with a rosy hue.

"So that was it. I'm fine, really, | don't want to dwell on it anymore. She's just a pitiable woman. I'll just stay away from her in the

future."

"Anyone who does wrong should apologize."

Wendy's lips curled into a satisfied smile as she followed him out of the hospital.

In a corner where no one could see, her eyes gleamed with malice.

Little did Zoey know, Wendy had orchestrated an accident meant for her. If Zoey wasn't already dead, she'd be crippled and still in

the hospital, fighting for her life.

Serves her right for trying to compete with Wendy for a man.
