Tyler glanced at his watch and asked Zoey, “How much tdo you need?”

“Just ten minutes.”

The two headed to a quiet private room. Zoey sat up straight, her posture at odds with the bruise on her face.

There was something about her that made Tyler intuitively feel she wasn't as fragile as she appeared.

Maybe it was only in the face of Fitch that her backbone seemed to melt away. But that wasn't for him to ponder. Love was a

battlefield, and the first to surrender handed the other the weapons to wound.

“Tyler, | need to know about the Miller family. Carol is a friend of Ms. Pennyfeather, and I'm a bit worried. | reached out to her

today, but she kept saying everything was fine. Yet, the media has been buzzing all day. Has her father really been locked up?”

While asking the question, Zoey had a hunch that the media reports were true - that Carol's father was indeed behind bars. What

was crucial now, however, was understanding what role Felix played in this.

If the president of the Miller Group was sent to the slammer by Felix himself, and he still insisted on marrying Carol now, what was

his endgame?

Was Carol being coerced? It was hard to picture a high-society girl like Carol from the Miller Group being forced into marriage.

Since Carol was tight-lipped about the whole affair, Zoey had no choice but to seek the truth herself.

Tyler raised an eyebrow, surprised by Zoey's line of inquiry, “The Miller family, huh? Yeah, they've collapsed this time. But who's to

blame? Carol was love-blind, let the wolf in the door, and gave Felix the chance.”

Zoey frowned, “Are you saying Felix had ulterior motives from the start? That he deliberately got close to Carol?”

Tyler cracked a smile, summoned the manager, and ordered a round of drinks. Then he began to slowly unravel the story.

“My guys looked into it. Years ago, Abner Miller was indeed in a car crash that killed three people - who happened to be Felix's kin.

Carol hid her family's wealth and started dating him, and Felix played the long game, working multiple jobs. Was that love?

Seemed more like playing house. Carol had a reputation in these circles; the Miller Group is a top-five firm, after all. She used to be

so proud, but for Felix, she convinced her dad to let him intern at the Miller Group, even made sbet. Neither she nor her

mother expected Felix's endgwasn't Carol - it was the entire Miller Group. He wanted her mother behind bars. As for Felix's

insistence on marrying Carol now, who knows if it's just to humiliate her.”

Zoey felt a chill. She thought her bad luck ended with Murray, losing years of love and hundreds of thousands. Now, hundreds of

thousands didn't seem so daunting, and her feelings for Murray had long vanished.

But for Carol, the true heiress, willing to defy her status for being with Felix, it was all deception from start to finish, even landing

her own father in jail.

Moreover, she'd sacrificed the Miller legacy, propelling a nobody like Felix to the Greenfield elite. His persistence in marrying Carol

could only be seen as humiliation.

Tyler poured Zoey a glass of juice, his tone nonchalant.

“Felix's got game, as cunning in business as lan and Fitch. This mess is beyond meddling now, so askingwon't do you any

good. It's all about stepping on the fallen in this circle. You cto me; I'm willing to tell you the truth because it's you, but with

anyone else, you'd be shown the door. Felix has been snapping up big companies lately. After this debacle, instead of plummeting,

the Miller Group's stock even rose. He's playing a strong hand.”

Zoey stared at the juice on the table, silent. She couldn't intervene. Even after Tyler left, she hadn't snapped out of it, unsure

whether to share this with Maja.

She didn't know what was happening on Maja's end. Massaging her temples, Zoey sighed, stood up, and left.

Just as she stepped out of the hotel, she spotted Fitch nearby, who was standing by his car, smoking in the brisk night air. His

trench coat fluttered in the wind.

Something tugged at Zoey's heart. She avoided his gaze and hurried to her car. Fitch's peripheral vision caught her. He should've

left when Tyler did, but something made him linger.

What could Zoey want with Tyler?
